Juanes, Wisin y Yandel, Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Chapo De Sinaloa and Mana Among Top Nominees for 'Premio Lo Nuestro 2009' on Univision
Univision, the leading Spanish-language network in the country, announced today the nominees for the 2009 edition of the prestigious "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina" ("Lo Nuestro" Latin Music Awards). Now in its 21st year, "Premio Lo Nuestro's" list of nominees includes a diversity of genres and artists, reflecting the cultural richness of Latin music. The announcement was made today during a special edition of "Despierta America" (Wake Up America), "Fiesta de Nominados - Premio Lo Nuestro 2009" (Celebration of Nominations.) This year's "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina" will be broadcast by the Univision Network on Thursday, March 26, 2009, from 8-11 pm ET/PT (7-10 pm Central) LIVE from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
With finalists in 30 categories divided into the 5 most popular Latin music genres of pop, tropical, regional Mexican, rock and urban, along with the "Video of the Year", "Premio Lo Nuestro" awards are bestowed annually to the very best talent in the Latin music industry. Music nominations are based on Radio and Records' Latin Charts for the time period of October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008. The winners are chosen by popular vote by viewers.
Leading the list with five nominations each are Colombian mega-star Juanes (Best Artist, Album of the Year, and three nominations for Best Song in the Rock genre) and Puerto Rican salsa legend Gilberto Santa Rosa (Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and two nominations for Best Song in the Tropical genre, as well as a nomination as Artist of the Year in the Salsa category). Following with four nominations each are the popular bachata group, Aventura; reggeaton's super duo, Wisin y Yandel; the ever popular rock band, Mana; the salsa group, NG2; and Regional Mexican icons, El Chapo de Sinaloa and La Arrolladora Banda el Limon.
Additional multiple nominees include pop music idols Alejandra Guzman (3), Enrique Iglesias (3), RBD (3), newcomer Yuridia (3), and the synth-pop band, Belanova (2); Regional Mexican groups Conjunto Primavera (3) and Grupo Montez de Durango (2); urban music super stars Flex (3), Daddy Yankee (2), Don Omar (2) and Alexis y Fido (2); Tropical music icons Juan Luis Guerra (3) and Victor Manuelle (3); and the rock groups Cafe Tacuba (2) and Motel (2), among others.
Other nominated music icons include, among others, Vicente Fernandez, Alejandro Fernandez, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Chayanne, Marco Antonio Solis, Olga Tanon, Gloria Trevi, Calle 13, Jenni Rivera, Ana Isabelle, Andy Andy, Alacranes Musical, Babasonicos, Black Guayaba, El Potro de Sinaloa, Tommy Torres, Frank Reyes, Intocable, K-Paz de la Sierra, Banda el Recodo and Camila.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2008, "Premio Lo Nuestro" was the highest-rated annual special among Hispanics in the United States with an average audience of 6.1 million viewers, beating all other English- or Spanish-language award shows. In addition, "Premio Lo Nuestro" delivered more Hispanic viewers than the combined audiences of the Academy Awards(R), Billboard Latin Music Awards, Emmy(R) Awards, MTV's Video Music Awards and the Golden Globes(R) Awards.
